Re: Configuring AUCTeX in Windows 7 — environment variables?

Hello Johannes_B, I was about to delete the question because I managed to install EMACS and AUCTeX in Win7 by following Joachim Schlosser's video tutorial on YouTube even though I don't understand German. However I still have problems regarding the pdf viewer. Instead of opening SumatraPDF, the pdf ...

Re: Configuring AUCTeX in Windows 7 — admin trouble!

Can anyone please help me configure AUCTex please? Which directory is best suited to install EMACS in (and therefore AUCTeX too)? I've tried installing in C:/Program Files/Emacs/ , is this a wise choice? The real trouble comes later on, when setting the environment variables' path-file. Should I wri...

Configuring AUCTeX in Windows 7 — environment variables?

Hello, I'm a long-time user of LaTeX and having tried different editors over the years, I now want to start using AUCTeX in Windows 7 with TexLive distribution. I've followed different guides to properly configure EMACS + AUCTeX, including Joachim Schlosser's guide to solve Admin problems such as th...

Password protected PDFs

Is there a way to password protect a pdf, namely a book (or even an article)?
I'm using texlive-latex-base 2009-10 on Ubuntu 10.10 with Gedit's Latex plugin.
Thank you.
PS. I've tried looking for a similar question in the forum but to no avail.

Re: How many files are there?

Hi there! May I suggest downloading and reading The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX2e (do a Google search for lshort.pdf)... Very quickly, the .aux, .toc and .bbl files are LaTeX files for keeping track of references, table of contents, bibliographies ... that sort of thing. The .dvi is a DeVice...

Re: Need an Advice

Thank you for your reply, pumpkinegan! I didn't save that page on my Favourites so later on I lost track of that post and decided to post a fresh question. Uhmm...you say it's better to stick on with TexnicCenter? Yeah...I'm starting to get used to it. Does Lyx allow you to type mathematical express...

How many files are there?

I'm using TexnicCenter. When I press "Build" various files are generated. there's a DVI file, a PDF, a PS, a .txt file. then there is a .AUX file, a .TOC and a .bbl file. What are they and why is my computer unable to read them? I mean, their icons are those of a generic unknown applicatio...

Need an Advice

Hi everyone, I've recently heard of Latex and presently I'm trying out some applications. I downloaded and installed MikTex 2.6 and TexnicCenter on my Windows Xp desktop computer. Will they work on my Windows Vista Home Premium laptop? Can I transfer mikTex's pakages from the desktop PC to the lapto...

Re: NO SPELLCHECK

Hi everyone, I'm just a Latex newbie. For days I've been searching the Internet looking for: 1) a free or opensource Word Processor 2) compatible with Windows Vista Home premium 3) which allows me to easily and quickly write Math expressions (without running to the Eq Editor Toolbar) I've tried Open...
