Thanks for your reply! I could explain those "bungling", but as they do not make much sense I don't even try. Your solution works, it is clear and neat. However, this way latex underlines the entire picture and not just the signature. Usually some parts of signatures are below the line ...

Thanks for the quick answer. My document class is report:
\documentclass[11pt]{report}
and I don't want to change that. I would like to keep the template in its original form and avoid the Grad School's notices. "book" compiles with some error messages, but apparently returns the same ...
