Margins not as expected if use pdflatex or texify

I've set the right and left margin as 1 inch in a letterpaper, and text width = 6.5in (= 8.5 - 1 - 1).

\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{1in}
\setlength{\evensidemargin}{1in}
\setlength{\textwidth}{6.5in}

If I use texify or pdflatex to compile, the generated left margin is always wider, and the right ...
