I figured it out. After using Figure Wrap Float to insert the caption a box appears around the caption. A figure can be in the box.

Have chosen Insert => Float => Figure and Insert => Float => Figure Wrap Float in LyX. Am only prompted for caption; not the figure. Running LyX 2.2.2

Thank you. I have 2 other solutions. For me, no section numbering is acceptable. If it were important [thought contrary to LYX philosophy] the section numbers could be added to the section titles.

The equation is in a new line [paragraph]. In text format option to center is grayed out.

Article has multiple parts and sections within each. The section numbering does not initialize after a new part. For example, if the last section in Part I is numbered 4, I would like the 1st section in Part II numbered 1; not 5.

My vision is poor and I would like everything larger - especally the fonts.

After exporting from writer to LateX 2e [Writer2LateX] each of my figures has this message: [Warning: Image ignored] % Unhandled or unsupported graphics:
