LaTeX.org

I installed livetex on ubuntu 12.04 to use with moodle.
Where I would expect an equation I get the latex code.
In debuggin mode click in the code gives the following information:

Checking executables
latex executable (/usr/bin/latex) is readable
dvips executable (/usr/bin/dvips) is readable
Error ...
