I have just been starting to use Texmaker on windows 8.
Here is a snippet of my code:

\begin{figure}[hbtp]
\centering
\includegraphics[scale=1]{sadf.pdf}
\caption{Figure 1}
\end{figure}

The \includegraphics command always brings up this error message:

Undefined control sequence ...
