The format of thesis in my university requires distinction between figures and photographs. Hence in the thesis there would be for example:
Figure 1:..
Photo 1:..
Photo 2:..
Figure 2:..
And these two need to be listed separately, for example:
List of Figures
Figure 1.
Figure 2.
List of ...
