Re: Paragraph ended before ...

Thanks for the tip about pdfLatex.

What I did wrong to get the 'paragraph ended' error. Any thoughts?

Package not found

Thorsten,

in response to Don89's question you provided a web link to the MiKTeX user manual. Is there a PDF version of it I could download? Or a printer-friendly version of the web link?

Regards

Re: Make Yap default DVI Viewer in TXC2b1

You may be right about the source of the problem being MikTeX but I offer this up as a counterpoint.

As I noted, both MikTeX and TxC left significant components around after uninstall. What role that played in my particular problem I'm not sure, but it seems that PCTeX, MikTeX, and TxC are not ...

Thank you. That was very clear and helpful. I also appreciate the additional reference. I have much to learn.

Difference between \[ \] and $ $

I fear I'm about to lose my head for this: what is the difference between the two constructs above?

I use $ A = \bigcup_{j=1}^n$ and I get the limits on the side of the U symbol. If I use \[ A = \bigcup{j=1}^n \] I get limits above and below (as I wanted).

Is \[ \] invoking some other environment ...

Make Yap default DVI Viewer in TXC2b1

I hinted at the reason in my post - I'm not entirely sure which of the many things I did solved my problem and I didn't want to consume people's time with stuff that might not work. But perhaps you're right - I will share what (I think) I know in good faith and if it helps someone, great.

Let me ...

Re: Make Yap default DVI Viewer in TXC2b1

I solved my problem but at this point I'm not exactly sure which of the many things I did solved it. And since I got the sense from the relative lack of interest that this was not a general problem, I will not bother folks with the details. However, if anyone else runs into this they can re-open the ...

Re: Make Yap default DVI Viewer in TXC2b1

Perhaps you're right, but as the blurb below hints at, I may be in the wrong universe entirely. Nevertheless, thanks MartinC for hanging in there with me. It's lonely in the land of failure.

For anyone following this thread, the problem lies (I believe) with Windows, not with either application ...

Re: Make Yap default DVI Viewer in TXC2b1

Thanks for the interest and I followed the link. I never installed MikTeX before the 2.9 version, so that can't be the problem. I took a look at the registry - it was mentioned in the thread - for all the good it did me since I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Nothing jumped out at me. It seems odd ...
