Re: Catchwords

Thanks a lot for that! Now I know how to do the catchwords.

Now my only problem is, how to justify the footer vertically just like another line. I don’t know if there’s an easy solution to that, so if there isn’t, don’t feel compelled to write a new package.

Catchwords

Some questions:

1) Your chapters must always start on an odd-numbered page?

2) The first part of a chapter should also contain a catchword if it occurs in an odd-numbered page?

1) No, I would like the chapter to “open any”; however, I do not want a blank odd page before a chapter begins.

Re: ASCII input (æ, ö)

The ASCII codes are 230 (æ) and 246 (ö).

I think my problem may have been due to specifically marking the character encoding UTF8x in the preamble, something I have since taken out.

Thanks!

ASCII input (æ, ö)

When I use XeTeX, I noticed that non-ASCII Unicode is allowed to be input directly (for example, dashes, curly quotes, and even Greek or Chinese). However, simple ASCII symbols (such as æ and ö) need to be input with the TeX escape codes (\ae, \"o).

I find this unwieldy. Is there some way around ...

Line breaks after dashes

I use XeLaTeX, and so I type in my quotes and dashes directly (i.e. I type “ and ”, not `` and '', and I type —, not ---). As I understand it, Unicode input is the proper way to do things, and it makes the source code cleaner.

However, my dashes will not break at the end of a line, meaning I need ...

Re: Catchwords

All right, I did the suggestions. Here's my trimmed-down file (still a bit long, but the details may be necessary).

Here are my remaining questions:

(1) How can I get the first page of each chapter to have no header, and the footer number centred directly below the last line?

(2) Similarly, how ...

That's not a very good idea. It's better to do those modifications in your .tex file.

I'm not quite sure how to do that. Could you help with that?

Catchwords

Thanks for that! Adding the following to the preamble helps with fancyfooter:

\usepackage{fwlw}
\fancyfoot[RO]{\vskip-24pt\hfill\copy\NextWordBox}

Catchwords

Salutations to all.

I’ve been using LaTeX for quite a while now, and have been quite pleased with the results. I have a question that is not about getting something necessary to work, but rather about a particular feature that I’d like.

Before the eighteenth century printers placed a catchword at ...
