Hello,
I am trying to create a number line such as those on page six of this paper
I have looked at coordsys package but it's hard to control the interval and the length of the number line. Do you have any other suggestions?

I am trying to create a long multiplication (like here http://mathworld.wolfram.com/LongMultiplication.html) and vertical form addition http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Addition.html but I don't know how to do this cleanly in Latex.
