After an error compiling fails at \begin{document}

Hi, i'm fairly new at LaTeX and am having a rather annoying problem. Everytime I make an error say
\begin{equation}
3^{21)
\end{equation}
and compile, I obviously get told that I have an error and where the error is, but then after I fix it and try to compile I get a fail at \begin{document}, yet ...
