I'm using lyx regularly to type french text using a french keyboard. This keyboard uses dead keys to add some accents (e.g. circonflex, â; trema, ä). However, these dead keys sometimes disappear, and the first stroke on the key gives directly "^" or "¨". I haven't the faintest idea how to ...

I seem to recall that pressing Ctrl+e in lyx toggles emphasis; what I mean is that the selected text is emphasized (i.e. printed in italic font), and that any text already emphasized within this text remains emphasized (i.e. stands out in the italic text by being just upright).

It seems that you're right, it's probably a Qt-related problem, or at least related to the GNOME - Qt interface.

There does not seem to be a forum for discussing gnome issues ... is the "GNOME Bugzilla" seems the only option ? All I want to do for now, is just to diagnose the problem ...

And I can't get the gnome's "shut down" dialog anymore, clicking "shut down" does not produce a visible effect.
Maybe I should contact the gnome people ...

I'm using Lyx 2.1.1 on a CentOS 7 machine running Gnome version 3.8.4.
