how to avoid first line indented?

If you want to avoid the first line indent throughout the document, set it in the preamble as
  1. \setlength{\parindent}{0pt}

If you want it for a specific line/para, use

  1. \noindent

A suggestion: Avoid using \\ to end the paragraphs in your text.

Problem with rotating an image. Topic is solved

Please give the complete code so that compiling will be easier. The image should also be included/attached. You can use the lscape package to get the desired result. \documentclass{article} % \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{lscape} \begin{document} \begin{landscape} \begin{figure}[h] \centering \i...

adding tabular in equation/math enviroment

Just a small change to Stefan's answer. I suggest the use of cases for typesetting the equation. Here is the code: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{amsmath} \DeclareMathOperator\app{app} \begin{document} \begin{equation} F = \begin{cases} F_{\app} \, \mu_{k} \sin(v) & \text{ if } v > ...

how to make more space between table caption and table?

[code The table formatting is perfect expect but too narrowed between caption and table. How to adjust? You can add the required space by using the vspace . \begin{table} \centering \caption{First Generation in UW-Madison} \vspace*{5mm} \scalebox{0.7}{ \begin{tabular}{l*{1}{cc}} \hline\hline &\...

Problem Installing TeX Live 2018

Open a terminal and type this :
  1. dpkg -l | awk '{print $2}' | grep texlive

See if any texlive packages are installed. If the output does not return anything, then TL2017 is not installed.

Problem Installing TeX Live 2018

Removing TL2017 that was installed via your system's package manager will not remove TL2018 installed independently. Go ahead and remove the packages using the software manager / package manager.

I suggest you first go through Mint intro docs to familiarise yourself with the system.

Problem Installing TeX Live 2018

Installing texmaker has pulled in the texlive packages from the debian repository, which in your case seems to be 2017 version. On my debian system, the texlive* packages are marked as recommended, not as a dependency. So, you can remove all texlive* packages installed. After that, you can tell texm...

tlmgr system wide installation

You may like to re-read my last sentence. Install TeXLive directly from ctan, or an iso. It is very simple, and tlmgr works as expected. Do you just off the top of your head the steps how to install on Unix or Linux a system wide version of TeXLive ? Download the iso, mount it as root, run install-t...

tlmgr system wide installation

The big problem for me is doing SYSTEM-WIDE installations on Linux with TeXLive It used to be easy to do with texhash and worked well for me until TeXlive came along. It is still easier :-) With TeXLive I take no chances and by default install all packages (about 1GB) using. apt-get install texlive...

You can get that using tikz. If you need some pointers to that, take a look at TeXamples.net.
