DVI compilation is OK, PDF compilation is KO

Hi good folks;
TeXnic works good, and it compiles both DVI and PDF-files alright.
However, as soon as I try to use some packages, such as "color" or "graphicx", PDF refuses to compile. Only DVI compilation works. I'm using MikTex 2.9.
It's possible to work with a dvi-file, but it would be even ...
