thanks, i knew it must be possible.. I just don't know how to read manuals

In latex one can give short headings for titles, chapters, sections, etc using the square brackets notation \section[my short title]{my much fuller title that's too long for my page headers} probably i am being stupid but i can't see an elegant way to do this in LyX..
