I had the same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 Lyx 1.6.7
Fist try to solve it with Qt configuration, as mention in
http://wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/Qt
does not work. Then I found ppa packages here
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/packages/show/202612
in particular the one we need is ttf-lyx
Installing it with synaptic ...
