In general the argument in an Matrix are centered. Is there a way to have them left orientated ?
Simple example:
$$\begin{matrix} x\\ abc \end{matrix}$$
now the above x is over the b but I like to have the x over the a and but there should not be a gap between abc so they should be in one cell.

I have two more math question.
1. I want to write an arrow with a function name above:
I first tried \rightarrow^f but this places the f at the end not in the middle. So I tried \stackrel{f}{\rightarrow} now it is up and in the middle but it should be a bit smaller. I guess I am just missing ...

I am quiet new to LaTeX and just use it for Math inside a Pages (Apple) Document. Now I am not that familiar with those special letters. Hope you can help me.
