Nested macro expansion for math calculation

I get a slightly different error message, but the problem is the same: [cmd]\edef[/cmd] expands its argument, but it doesn't actually do anything with it, so TeX gets confused. [cmd]\def[/cmd] doesn't expand the macro [cmd]\hitspherediscriminant[/cmd] until [doc]\res[/doc] is expanded, meaning the [...

If it's in a CV, why not use bibentry? That way, each entry is treated as an independent entity and won't receive a "key" in the list. You would then use {enumerate} or {renvumerate} (from the revnum package) to list the documents.

Vertical alignment in table cells with revtex4

JBClaypool wrote:Try \documentclass[aps,amsmath,showkeys,superscriptaddress]{revtex4-2}
Looks like there was an update, and I was able to compile it after doing that.

revtex4-2 does exactly the same thing. My fix above works with 4, 4-1, and 4-2 (and in fact I tested it with 4-2).

Scale longtable to text widh

I don't know off the top of my head how to do this with longtable, but supertabular has a supertabular* environment that allows you to adjust the column widths the same way tabular* does.

Vertical alignment in table cells with revtex4

The following line exists in revtex4.cls \@ifpackageloaded{array}{\switch@array}{\switch@tabular} The result is, from what I gathered via a quick glance, something that effectively un-does what array is supposed to be doing regarding table layout (and this is one effect/side-effect). I was able to f...

I suspect what you are looking for is $R^\cup$.

Strange citations now and then with ALL names instead of et al.

This works fine for me. Please post a that reproduces the problem if you want us to diagnose further. One guess is that it could be a BibTeX error that you are ignoring---I see this a lot when people use TeXmaker or a similar IDE-like environment that doesn't pause on errors, so that's something to ...

Reduce space between sections (developer cv)

Does it work to simply change \vspace{-\baselineskip} to \vspace{-1.8\baselineskip} or some such? If not, try putting either \vspace{-1ex} or \vskip -1ex before the minipage in question. If those don't work, try putting \vbox{} in front of the vspace command.

Thesis format : Chapter name and chapter number in different line

I don't claim this will do exactly what you want, but it's a variation on this one way or another: \setlength{\topskip}{18pt} \renewcommand{\@makechapterhead}[1]{% % Heading for \chapter command \vspace*{30mm} % This is in mm from the top margin, not the top of the page \begin{center}\LARGE \ifnum \...
