LEd (http://www.latexeditor.org/) can do it. Usually, I use LEd and TexnicCenter. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

It is said an old TEXINPUTS definition can cause that error. Delete that.

If this is not the solution, sorry, cannot help more.

If that line has been changed, there will be a color bar next to the line number.. however, when you save it and reopen it, it won't be there.
