So, having looked into this more, it seems to be a bit of a recurring issue with moderncv on LyX. The only fixes I can find are for Linux though.
I gather it's an issue with marvosym but I have reinstalled it with the MikTex package manager (which has fixed things in the past) to no avail.

Problems with subfigures in Lyx
Hi, was hoping I could get some help with my thesis. I'm trying to make a figure float with subfigures but everytime I nest a figure float within a figure float and try to make a PDF of the document it comes up with an error message (below). Any ideas? Any help would be massively appreciated.
