Help getting AUCTeX working under Windows

Post by professorbell »

I can't be the only one having trouble getting AUCTeX working under windows.

I am running GNU Emacs 24.3(freshly installed, with no additions or modifications) in windows 7 with MikTeX 2.9 (not ideal, but I can't change the operating system on this machine...)

It is easy to find AUCTeX under the package manager in Emacs, but once I installed it, opened a sample paper with my standard mess of a header, and tried to PDF it, I got the following error:

Code: Select all

======================================================================
latex: Cannot start MiKTeX package manager.
latex: Data: Invalid syntax

======================================================================

! LaTeX Error: File `fullpage.sty' not found.
Since this document compiles happily in MiKTeX' editor, I assume that I am missing some simple, stupid steps.

Help?

Help getting AUCTeX working under Windows

There is a LaTeX-package missing, namely fullpage from the preprint bundle. Auctex by itself can't acces the MikTeX package manager to install packages on the fly. It's a long time since I last worked with MikTeX, but maybe the --shell-escape option must be enabled.

The simplest but not convenient way would be to install all missing packages via the package manager manually. You could also install a complete MikTeX, not just the basic version (standard set of packages, by far not all).

Running your document from the commandline would be another possibility.

Remark: Setting all margins to 1.5 cm? That doesn't give a nice looking document.
The smart way: Calm down and take a deep breath, read posts and provided links attentively, try to understand and ask if necessary.
