Thiago S. Mosqueiro has released a comprehensive article about the RevTex 4 package in the LaTeX Community know how section. Thiago describes briefly the RevTex 4 package for those interested in Physical Review look and feel. As a non-trivial article, some features supported (and not supported) by RevTeX 4 are presented with screenshot examples. This article may help physicists in first touch with APS journals and manuscripts submittion. Go ahead and be the next to write an article!

Herbert Voß has released the examples for the extended German version of his documentation about typesetting mathematic formulas using LaTeX. The German document with about 300 pages is named Mathematiksatz mit LaTeX and is also available as a book published in the DANTE edition series. The smaller English version of the document has been released a view days ago.

Emmanuel Beffara has released his cmll font set. cmll is a very small font set which contains some symbols useful in linear logic, which are apparently not available elsewhere. Variants are included for use with Computer Modern serif and sans-serif and with the AMS Euler series. The font is provided both as MetaFont source, and in Adobe Type 1 format.

The TeXnicCenter team has released the fourth alpha version of the new TeXnicCenter 2.0 development branch.TeXnicCenter 2 introduces a lot of changes in contrast to the old version 1 release: For example it introduces a new editor component, unicode support and a much more modern user interface. Alpha four fixes a long list of issues and introduces a lot of interesting and helpful new features.

Our fellow LaTeX Community user MarcinBorkowski has submitted the first article to the new LaTeX Communities Know How Article Section. Marcin's article describes how to correctly define mathematic operators like sin and log, which are not already defined by LaTeX itself. And this is only the first article. Herbert Voß has updated his document Math mode. Though he only made minor modifications, we are listing this news here, because we have not reported about this document before, but think that it is quite useful to a broad range of LaTeX users. The document with 135 pages, gives a complete overview about typesetting mathematic formulas with LaTeX.

Together with the design student Julia Pohl (Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel) we developed a survey about the usability of TeXnicCenter. It is supposed to help us for the future development of TeXnicCenter. Currently the survey is only available in German. We are looking for volunteers that translate the survey into other languages. If you are willing to do this, please contact the maintainer. Go on to the German survey.

Farshid Delgosha has released the first version of his LaTeX package pst-sigsys. It's hompage states that "the package offers a collection of useful macros for disciplines related to signal processing.  It defines macros for plotting a sequence of numbers, drawing the pole-zero diagram of a system, shading the region of convergence, creating an adder or a multiplier node, placing a framed node at a given coordinate, creating an up-sampler or a down-sampler node and connecting a list of nodes using any node-connecting macro."

Excactly two years ago - on the 14th of January 2007 - LaTeX Community has gone online. Though nothing more than a simple forum or to be more precise bulletin board, its growth (about 14,000 posts, 3,000 registered users and 3,000 visits per day)  has shown, that LaTeX users all over the world were already waiting for a place to find help and exchange their knowledge. Though the classical forums are still available, starting today, LaTeX Community is no longer only a simple bulletin board. Some exciting new features and a brand new page layout have been introduced to increase the value for all LaTeX Community users...

The Kile developers have released beta 2 of the 2.1 version of their integrated LaTeX environment for the KDE platform. As it is a beta version, it is not intended for productive usage -- the latest stable release is still version 2.0.3.

The LEd development team has decided to change the distribution model of their LaTeX editor LEd. According to this new model, a standard version of LEd similar to the current version will still be available for free. Additional functionality will be provided via payable plug-ins and maybe a professional version.
