Special nesting of \overbrace and \underbrace

LaTeX seems to force proper nesting of \overbrace and \underbrace. But I need something like the one shown in the picture (see the attachment). Any ideas?

Thanks a lot. My problem is solved, and better yet: I got familiar with the above excellent paper.

I'm glad you found the answer. We should actually thank Juanjo for drawing my attention to that paper in an earlier post.
