Compile an exam from a collection of questions in LaTeX

Post by Hugemiler »

Hello, everyone!

I thank you in advance for your help. I am a Chemistry Professor and a novice (at most) at LaTeX. Also, English is not my native language, so please be patient =]. To summarize my request, I need to build a PDF file (or another .TEX file) compiling multiple entries on a single .TEX file. Details below.

I frequently find myself in the position of creating several exams for very similar subjects. Throughout the last years, I put together a beautiful question bank - a collection of authoral questions and translations.

Problem is, this collection is scattered across several MS-Word files, and contain several types of objects, since MathType/Equation expressions all the way to .CDX/.MOL chemical structures. I have a great desire to compile this whole collection in LaTeX, and I have a personal project of sharing it with the teaching community. So i thought, it would be GREAT if i could give an unique ID to each question, and have other Professors make their own tests/exams simply by inputting a collection of IDs in a compilation Algorithm.

I've already been through the effort of making sure all i had was MathType/Equation objects and .PNG files on the MS-Word originals, so conversion to .TEX would be less painful =]. Still, I'm stuck trying to understand which is the best way to place these IDs on the .TEX file, so I'm asking for the LaTeX community some help on that subject. Additionally, any other tips are welcome.

Thank you very much for the attention/effort, and I apologize for anything rude, since I'm new to forum etiquette, too. Have a nice!
