very newby: how to install Lyx on OSX?

I have no idea, but perhaps this is related to the following:

http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/10671

which will be fixed in the LyX 2.3.0rc2 (and 2.3.0 final) release.

LyX 230RC-1 trojan detected from windows defender

Thanks, for reference the mail thread you started is here: https://www.mail-archive.com/search?l=mid&q=CAC5Snw8bdA7SRMiJBmsJt_bjfRg1JnjGAzOM4izuigzdSfpBiw%40mail.gmail.com As for where to find the .sig files, you can find them on the same ftp where you downloaded the installer. Using gpg to veri...

LyX 230RC-1 trojan detected from windows defender

This has come up in the past. See for example here: https://www.mail-archive.com/search?l=mid&q=189c1a5d-de85-3323-5961-06d980188255%40lyx.org One thing you could do is check the signature file of the downloaded file. This will confirm at least that the binary you downloaded is the same one that...

Export to odt/docx skips words in a different language Topic is solved

Note that an external converter is used to convert to .odt/.doc, so you might want to report the issue to the external program. See Preferences > Converters to know which external tool is being used.

how to create a simple layout

Take a look at this email thread: https://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg178156.html It apparently includes a patch that adds a "goto_button" and "goto_text". I don't remember if it works or what the potential problems are. I would like to someday implement a nat...

"XeTeX is taking a long time" popup

OK this was implemented at the following commit: https://www.lyx.org/trac/changeset/1eb41a88/lyxgit

You can see the ticket that lead to the commit here:
https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/8032

If you are willing to compile LyX, I can give you a patch that gets rid of the message.

"XeTeX is taking a long time" popup

ExecutorElassus wrote:next time I'm running a big compile job, I'll try compiling again and let you know the exact popup message.

Sounds good. I just want to make sure I know what message you're talking about before I take the time to look further at the code.

"XeTeX is taking a long time" popup

The problem *isn't* that the popup occurs. The problem is that it isn't measuring compilation time correctly. When I'm running the CPU at 100%, that popup comes up after 3 minutes. If the CPU is otherwise idle, compilation runs for 8-9 minutes with no popup at all. So it isn't measuring "time ...

"XeTeX is taking a long time" popup

Is there some threshold number of "completed steps per unit time" that triggers that warning? Is this timer also supposed to catch compilations if the compilation hangs (such that active compilation stops, but doesn't exit, getting stuck), and not just measure/respond to how long the job ...

dark background on Lyx Mac

I logged in as administrator and searched for the preferences file in the Lyx directories but did not find it. Apparently, Lyx only saves a file if the user changes any settings. I did look for the background color in the Lyx preferences and the default color was the usual cream color not the dark ...
