Re: Ending page with fullstop

Sadly I have to report that the code provided by Josephwright does not work \let\savedfullstop. \catcode`\.=\active \def.{\savedfullstop\penalty-1000\relax} I entered this in the preamblen found under settings in LYX. When I tried to see the DVI I got two error messages Latex error: missing \begin(d...

Re: Ending page with fullstop

Perhaps then in the tips and tricks section of the LYX manual ??? As a person who justs want to write books without getting too embedded in the technical stuff I find LYX and Latex with Memoir class make it so very easy to produce fantastic looking manuscripts. From my roaming on "writers"...

Re: Ending page with fullstop

A heartfelt thanks Josephwright. I do not know enough to formulate the code that you have given me but I do know enough to know it will work, I will Post here to let all know when I have it working. I will also see if I can get this put in the manual for memoireclass because with this added I expect...

Ending page with fullstop

I am using memoir class in LyX to write story books. I want to make TeX always end a page at a full stop or period. In the book » TeX for the impatient « I found the following. \brokenpenalty [ (number) parameter ] This parameter specifies the penalty for breaking a page just after a line that ends ...

Re: How to view the number of pages with Lyx?

There is no direct way to get page numbers because it is so much dependant on your document settings. There is under TOOLS, Statistics an immediate output of word count. To get page count It would be better to select View> DVI The DVI takes a moment to be generated then on the right side of the DVI ...

How to use \penalty

I want to cause TEX/Latex to try always to end a page at a period. In the Book TEX for the Impatient I find the following. Quote \penalty (number) This command produces a penalty item. The penalty item makes TEX more or less willing to break a page at the point where that item occurs. A negative pen...

Re: Novel layout

Use Memoir class in LYX Memoir class can do all the things you want but you will have to read the manual. Another recommended reading is the book "TEX for the Impatient" which can be downloaded from the latex community site just do a search for it by name. With Memoir class the time spent ...

Re: can't change document settings

I am taking a guess. LYX files under Linux can have attributes changed by several different things. Go to your LINUX system click on the file that is giving you a problem and check properties / permissions. You may find that the file has been made read only to even the owner who is presumably you. T...

Re: cite in picture caption

So many users on this site seem unaware of the abiity to insert what LYX calls an ERT in your document. At top of screen select INSERT which gives a drop menu. on that drop menu is TEX. Select TEx and you have a box appear where your cursor is for putting the latex code in. Click in the box to put y...
